Introduction

Activation refers to the process through which a merchant running a TruRating enabled POS, Payment system or Payment Terminal is setup on the TruRating host and enabled so that TruModule is able to request rating questions from TruService and deliver ratings and transaction information. The activation process can be completed in a number of ways, depending upon the target market for the solution.

Only when activation is complete will the payment device or terminal start asking questions. Once the merchant has completed the activation process they will be able to log in to the TruRating merchant portal to view their ratings in near real-time.

The two common approaches to activation are described below:

Centralised Merchant Activation

For merchants with large estates, the activation process can be done entirely between the TruRating Customer Care team and the merchant head office function. The Customer Care Team works with each merchant to compile a list of all outlets and use the TruRating bulk loader to on-board the whole merchant estate. Once initial on-boarding is complete the merchant continues to communicate directly with the Customer Care team when new outlets open or when existing outlets close so ongoing changes are always managed centrally.

All activations an deactivations should be designed to be managed centrally with minimal or no requirement for any work to be performed on each device/POS

Where this method of activation is being done TruModule does not need to provide any activation related capabilities (i.e. TLA).

TruModule is required to periodically confirm the activation status with TruService and ensure questions are presented and ratings collected only when TruService indicates that the merchant & outlet is still activated.

Terminal Led Activation (TLA)

For merchants who will activate TruRating on an outlet by outlet level, the activation process is completed by the merchant using the TruRating merchant portal in conjunction with their payment device or terminal. This is referred to a Terminal Led Activation since the process of activation allows the merchant to use capabilities which are built into TruModule as part of the activation process.

Terminal Led Activation will be used most commonly as part of TruRating enablement on standalone payment terminals.

With this method of activation, TruModule must implement support for TLA as defined in the specifications section.

TruModule is required to periodically confirm the activation status with TruService and ensure questions are presented and ratings collected only when TruService indicates that that merchant is activated.

Note that while the TLA process can be used to activate the TruRating application at a merchant outlet, it is not used to deactivate it. Deactivation is done as part of the TruRating account management process.
